This was a replacement for a keyboard I literally wore out over six years. Great product. No troubles.I use this keyboard on a “standard” 2019 7th Generation iPad. It’s exactly what most Apple accessories are. A perfect, battery-efficient addition to your mobile arsenal. For all the expense and strange ROI people complain about with MacBooks and OSX machines, Apple does one thing right all the time: they make perfect peripherals that do exactly what they are advertised for, in style and with features you didn’t know you needed. These keys are bizarre. They are chiclet-style raised keys, with an absolutely fantastic texture that can’t be compared. I guess maybe rubberized micro-corduroy? The F and J keys have the standard blind typing bump, and everything is kind of tight as you might expect on such a small form factor. The typing experience is a joy, even with giant meat mitts like mine! The sound and action of the keys is quiet and firm, so I can type for a good long while on this thing without driving people in the room nuts or bothering my hands. The compact nature of the keys takes a little getting used to, as there is little space for function and symbol keys. There is a very handy emoji key in the bottom right for use with Apple emojis and downloaded sticker sets. The arrow keys are tiny, in the bottom right. If you use a magic keyboard, the layout will be familiar. The battery drain this device causes is not noticeable. It magnetically attaches to the side of the iPad, and works with most single-side cases on the market (check out the section on “Bought with this item” and choose the one you like. It really doesn’t matter what the material is unless you have kids or are planning on putting the iPad through an obstacle course and need tough armor. As you might guess, the keyboard folds into itself, presenting a synthetic suede face toward the screen. It acts as a thick, protective cover and magnetically sleeps the device display. The cover it creates is a little chunky and not perfectly symmetrical, but closes precisely and doesn’t allow too much crud under it. Having a screen protector would give you 100% security, but I never worry about modern devices. Why did I buy this? Simple. It makes the iPad into a computer replacement. You can quickly and easily type with office software, Discord, social media, e-mail, etc. My iPad sit so n the coffee table, ready for gaming or conversing at a moment’s notice. The angle is great for viewing, and is magnetically secured to make sure your iPad doesn’t slip flat as you pound on the keys.Oh, and you don’t have to connect anything. Like all Apple products, the iPad knows the keyboard has been attached, and behaves like it was made to work with it, which it was. That’s a big plus. No goofing with Bluetooth settings or worrying about disconnecting mid-sentence.So, don’t play around with 3rd party stuff. Grab a genuine Apple keyboard for your little tablet and turn it into a mobile battlestation you can be proud of!UPDATE: As of August ‘21, keyboard started having intermittent connection issues over the last few months and has finally died after about 3 years of extremely light use. I’d use it maybe once a month for the entire time I had it and it spent most of its life in my backpack. While they function great initially, these keyboards seem to be very fragile, so keep that in mind. All the stuff I said below still applies, but weigh the quality issues against the cost. Luckily I was able to find a refurbished replacement for less than $50 from a different seller. There is no way I’d pay any more than that for a replacement at this point.I just got this in today (Saturday afternoon) after ordering late Thursday night. I did a lot of competitor research – mostly because I was hoping a could find something that had solid reviews, but wasn’t so expensive. $150 for an iPad keyboard is a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people and I understand why. I considered others and thought hard about the Logitech keyboard, but didn’t really want to deal with anything connected via bluetooth. Concerns with other less expensive offerings focused heavily on unresponsive keys and missed keystrokes for those who type fast. There are other keyboards that really add a lot of bulk and weight to the setup and I didn’t want that either. Lastly, I read a lot of reviews for keyboard/cover combos that offered front/back protection, but those always seemed to have issues with the hinge breaking after a few months of use.Reviews for the iPad Smart Keyboard were mostly solid when it came to connectivity and keystroke responsiveness and to me that was something that had to be good if this was going to be worth the cost. One common complaint about the Smart Keyboard is that it doesn’t offer any protection for the back of the iPad. This is true. However, you can use the Smart Keyboard in combination with other iPad cases that will give you the back protection you need. Many other cases, such as the one I use, leave the magnetized side of the iPad open for a connection to the Smart Keyboard. I happen to use the Crystal Clear Poetic Lumos Flexible Soft Transparent Ultra-Thin Compact Resistant TPU Case because it has a holder for the Apple Pencil. So, to recap...I’m using the Smart Keyboard, which is functioning beautifully. It’s actually easier to type on this than it is on my 2016 MacBook Pro 13. The keystrokes are responsive and I’m able to type as fast as I can with any other traditional computer. The Smart Keyboard works with the case I was already using, which also has a holder for the Apple Pencil. So, I’ve got the protection I need for the back of the iPad, the pencil won’t get lost and I have the absolute best option out there for an iPad keyboard.I’m including multiple photos to show you all how well this setup works. If you want to get the same case to go with the keyboard, I previously used the exact item description so you can all search easily.I have a hard time believing anyone would be disappointed with this keyboard if it’s set up the way I’ve just described.Good luck and happy typing!I wish I could give this product 3.5 stars but I settled for 4. After having it for about a year I believe I can give my best opinion on it. So for starters it’s incredibly light. If your just tossing this in your backpack you won’t notice the difference, this goes for battery life as well, no difference, however: it’s not very durable. After about a year of owning the silicone is very scuffed up although it’s still very much usable. Building off that the keys are very close together. That being said once you get used to it you can type INCREDIBLY fast. You can rip out paragraph after paragraph with no lag. This comes to my main problems: the price and inconvenience. In terms of how convenient it’s been over the past year there’s been far too many times when I’ve tried to type something and it simply doesn’t work. I have to fully take it off the iPad and put it back on for the contacts to reconnect and then I can type away. And that comes to the price. There’s no way this thing is worth what I bought it for ($150). You can get a probably way better one from Logitech for cheaper that won’t look absolutely destroyed after 2 months of owning, the silicone Apple uses scuffs with a light touch. But overall it’s a good product. But I most likely wouldn’t buy it again.Gerät nach 2 Jahren defekt. Fehler im Internet vielfach beschrieben. Keine Kulanz von Apple. Nicht empfehlenswert.Very easy to setup - just line up the holes and off you go.The magnets are strong and give the impression of secure attachments to your device. My wife and children do have a little difficulty in opening the cover. It is a quality product and works well. The keyboard is a nice size and my (limited) typing feels comfortable in terms of the movement of the keys and the position I need to sit in to use it.I do have doubts over the areas that fold - I have a feeling that these will deteriorate much faster than I shall wish and the cost of purchase.Perfect fit and very light to hold and use. The only lighter solution is the Logitech keys to go but then you need an additional case to be able to protect and tilt the iPad.Amazon had this at a really good price when I bought it.No charging is needed and it is a very versatile solution. It’s slightly bigger than the latest iPad Pro keyboard case therefore it’s easier to type on.You do need a protective back cover and there are good value options from Amazon. It's very thin and light - good for sitting on a desk and looking good but flimsy and unstable on your lap. The keyboard is cramped and not mechanical, it can't be used if detached from the iPad and it gives little protection, so not for me.Excellent product. Only problem was not realising when I received keyboard for iPad Pro instead of iPad Air, that it was compatible with both. Took me three goes at sending it back as wrong item before realising this. Very confusing to order the one for iPad Air and be sent iPad Pro. Very happy with product now though. Very easy to fit and use.
